Chicken Inn… …………………………………………………………..(2) 2
Black Rhinos………………………………………………………………… 0
A FIRST half brace from Bhekimpilo “Bhakha” Ncube saw Chicken Inn complete a double over Black Rhinos in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Hartsfield Rugby Ground in Bulawayo yesterday.
Ncube, the former Zimbabwe Saints, Motor Action, FC Platinum and Highlanders player found the target with his not so powerful right foot to seal the tenth win for Joey Antipas’ side while at the same time complicating things for the Jostein Mathuthu coached army side who are fighting demotion from the top-flight league.
Black Rhinos did show some attacking intent in the first few minutes of the match but never posed any problems for Elvis Chipezeze in goals for Chicken Inn.
Chicken Inn got their first chance at goal with 16 minutes played when John Bernard’s free kick from outside the box forced a good save from Samuel Mafukidze in goals for the visitors.
Ismael Lawe, who received a long clearance at the back found himself through in the 27th minute only to shoot wide. Ncube opened the scoring with 28 minutes played, taking good advantage of loose marking in the box from the Rhinos defence to slot the ball into the nets. A minute later, Lawe again got another opportunity to put his team in front but guided his effort over the bar.
Ncube doubled the Chicken Inn lead eight minutes before the break. Some lovely work from Clemence Matawu on the right saw the veteran midfielder’s delivery met first time by Ncube who scored with his right foot again. He could have had his third but failed to connect with a cross from George Majika two minutes to halftime.
Mafukidze was pulled out at the start of the second half to be replaced by the 2013 Castle Lager Goalkeeper of the Year, based on statistics, Herbert Rusawo.
Not much action took place in the second half with the second period characterised by rough tackles from both teams with referee Nkosana Nduna flashing a few yellow cards.
