THE establishment of the Ndau FM radio station in Chipinge is taking shape, with construction of the studio now underway.
The radio station will be located in Ward 28.
Ndau Community Radio Trust has already paid for the radio station’s licence.
The Trust’s chairperson, Mr Donald Kumbama, confirmed the development and said they are working with the community on the project.
“There are two projects being carried out in Garahwa, namely the construction of the radio studio and transmission mast which is being done by TransMedia. We have been assisted with six trucks of river sand by GreenFuel following engagement with Chipinge South legislator, Honourable Enock Porusingazi.
“We have also received support from the local traditional leadership, with Chief Garahwa and Chief Mpungu mobilising the local communities to be involved in the project,” he said.
Mr Kumbana said they expect to receive the broadcasting equipment from Government.
“We are set to receive broadcasting equipment from Government which is working in partnership with UNESCO. We are working hard to complete the project before conducting a workshop and then going on air.”
The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) in September last year granted licences to two radio stations in Chipinge District and these are Ndau FM and Vemuganga FM.
The radio stations are required to go on air within 18 months of getting the licences, failure of which the licences will be revoked.
