BULAWAYO businessman Donald Ndebele has been co-opted into the Highlanders Football Club executive as treasurer with immediate effect.
Ndebele, twice a losing candidate for the club’s secretary-general position, fills the gap left by Jerry Sibanda, who resigned in April to take up the chairmanship of ambitious Southern Region Soccer League side Bulawayo City.

Since then, Bosso secretary-general Emmett Sibanda has been doubling up as the club’s treasurer, albeit in an acting capacity.

Highlanders’ executive chairman Peter Dube confirmed the co-option of Ndebele whom he described as a “dedicated and passionate” member of the club, who the leadership feels is capable of serving the club”.

“As you may be aware, Highlanders has been looking for a treasurer since April and I’m glad to announce that Ndebele has been roped into the executive to assume the treasurer’s duties. Other than being qualified, Ndebele was seen as a dedicated and passionate member of the club. He will be the club’s treasurer until next year’s annual general meeting after which we’ll have our elections,” said Dube.

Ndebele, a holder of a number of accounting qualifications, was part of five shortlisted people for the treasurer’s seat.

Dube declined to name the other individuals that were in contention saying: “I don’t think it’s fair to name those who were not co-opted. They are qualified as well but it’s Ndebele that the club settled for.”

Ndebele, who is into the transport and distribution business, believes his entry into the club’s administrative structures would add value to the club in the eyes of the corporate world.

“It’s really an honour to serve an institution like Highlanders. I’m a businessman by right and I therefore strongly believe I’ll add value to this institution which will in turn instill confidence in the corporate world – a vital cog in the future of Highlanders.

“I’ve an appreciation of the law, finance and all the ‘dos and don’ts’ in any business transaction. I promise to serve Bosso to the best of my abilities,” Ndebele said.
