Ndebele ready to serve club he served

RAERBURN Ndebele who is a candidate for the executive secretary post at Highlanders has opened up on what he wishes to see changed should he win the elections on February 4.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub, Ndebele said he was committed to restore the old Highlanders which used to be the flagship team in the country.

He said if voted into power he will turn the fans chapters into business hubs to improve the club’s revenues.

Ndebele said he also wanted to create a strong and fully capacitated club secretariat.

He also spoke about the need for separation of powers between the secretariat, executive and board.

Ndebele said he was committed to seeing the construction of the Highlanders Football Club Village with training grounds and a shopping mall.

“We want to see separation of powers, first we should have a secretariat which should be empowered and us as the executive we should come in and supervise their work,” he said.

Ndebele said there was a need to enforce the Highlanders culture whereby the club does not buy players from outside but develop its own such as was the case with the likes of Zephania Ngodzo, Kenneth “Dokoza” Msimanga and Vusa Nyoni.

“It was not difficult for them to be incorporated into the team as they knew the club culture,” he said.
Ndebele said members should be given equal opportunities to undertake duties for the club.

“I think the issue of permanent marshals sometimes disadvantages other members.

“My intention is to rotate marshals so that members get equal opportunities to undertake duties for the club. For example, we would say this week we are choosing marshals from Cowdray Park and then the other week we change so that everyone benefits,” said Ndebele.

Having worked for the team for 12 years as a clerk, juniors team manager, first team manager and as a physiotherapist for the first team, Ndebele knows the day-to-day running of the team and its culture.

The other eight contestants for the elections are Johnfat Sibanda, Kenneth Mhlophe, Nodumo Nyathi and Eddison Dube for the chairmanship, Morgen “Gazza” Dube and Nsikelelo Mafa-Moyo are vying for the secretary’s post alongside Ndebele.

Bheka Sibanda and Kindman Ndlovu want to be committee members.

The elections will be held on February 4 at the team’s clubhouse.
