UNITED States-based Zimbabwean middle and long-distance runner Pardon Ndhlovu says he feels humbled and honoured to be selected to run for his country at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August. Ndhlovu (28), who is based in Augusta, was last week named among three male long-distance runners, who will represent Zimbabwe in the men’s marathon at the Rio Games.
The other two are seasoned campaigners Cuthbert Nyasango and Wirimai Juwawo.
Nyasango and Juwawo are set to represent Zimbabwe in the men’s marathon event at the Olympic Games for the second consecutive time after their exploits in London in 2012, where they did themselves and the nation proud by finishing in the top 20.
Ndhlovu, however, will be featuring at the world’s biggest sporting showcase for the first time in his career at the Rio Games.
He told The Herald from his base in Augusta at the weekend that being selected to run for Zimbabwe at the Rio Games was the best thing that has happened to him in his career.
“I am humbled and honoured to have been selected to represent my country. I know it comes with great responsibility and I am ready to take the challenge. “
