Securico managing director, Ms Divine Ndhlukula has been selected as one of the most influential female leaders of 2015 in the world for her concerted efforts in empowering women in Zimbabwe and the region.
Announcing the list of the 100 most influential female leaders of 2015, on Monday night, Empowering a Billion Women by 2020, EBW2020, a global movement paid tribute to Ms Ndhlukula’s outstanding role in empowering women in Zimbabwe and across the world.
“As always, you are an incredible role model and bright light to girls and women in Zimbabwe, in Africa and in the world. You inspire, motivate and empower millions with your outstanding leadership,” said EBW2020 in a statement.
Ms Ndhlukula who leads one of the country’s growing security firms is the only Zimbabwean among the leaders. Other global leaders who made it to the list include America’s First Lady Michelle Obama, Hilary Clinton, Mozambican former first lady, Graca Machel and Liberia’s president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
In an interview, Ms Ndhlukula said her selection is an affirmation of her efforts in empowering women.
“I am extremely humbled by the selection, which recognises the efforts I have been making in ensuring that women from all spheres of are economically empowered,” she said.
The nominations and subsequent selection of the leaders was done by EBW2020 global advisors and the board members. It however does not mention the criteria used to select the leaders, drawn from all the countries across the globe.
Ms Ndhlukula is the founder and managing director of DDNS Security Operations, trading as Securico, a company she started on her kitchen table.
She has been instrumental in the setting up of the gender desk at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, and has over the years been encouraging women and young people to become entrepreneurs.
Through her conscious and deliberate efforts, Ms Ndhukula lobbied for the inclusion of women in the security sector and her company now employs more than 900 women, arguably the largest employer of women in Zimbabwe outside civil service.
