Renowned filmmaker and talent scout Eddie Ndlovu is set to explore themes of temptation, marital strife and hypocrisy in his upcoming movie titled, “Fortnight.”
A revered storyteller in the realms of film and television, Ndlovu promises fans a refreshing production that will grace both small and big screens.
As the production process enters its final stages, preparations are underway for the premiere of “Fortnight,” which aims to redefine filmmaking for local productions.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Ndlovu expressed optimism that the film, starring Netherlands-based mbira musician Vimbai Zimuto, as one of the debutants, will leave a lasting impression.
“The name of my movie that I am working on is Fortnight.
“It explores themes of power, temptation, betrayal, class tension, marriage and the masks we wear behind closed doors.
“At its core, it’s a psychological drama about human desire, manipulation, and the consequences of emotional entanglements,” he stressed.
In his quest to create powerful productions that resonate with Zimbabwean audiences, Ndlovu employed both seasoned and new actors.
“The film features a strong ensemble cast, with Vimbai Zimuto making her movie debut as Madam Ru, a manipulative landlady. Joining the cast are Munyaradzi Jena as Tino, Blessed Zezai as Lindi and David Kanduna as Tembo, Madam Ru’s husband.”
The production crew is led by Ndlovu, the film’s director and writer, along with Zimuto (producer), Talent Chitauro (co-producer), and two popular filmmakers, Andre Ndhlovu and Daniel Kiwitty.
When asked how long it took to assemble such a diverse cast, he explained.
“The writing, development, and casting took about four weeks, followed by an intense 10-day shoot. The film is now in post-production, being edited by Andre and Andile Ndhlovu. We operated on a modest indie budget of under US$5 000, stretching every dollar for quality production value.”
When asked what makes “Fortnight” different from his previous productions, Ndlovu shared.
“Fortnight is my boldest and most intimate story yet. Unlike previous films that leaned more into socio-economic themes or ensemble drama, this one focuses on a confined space and a tight timeframe — 14 days, one house, four people. It’s theatrical yet cinematic, emotionally raw and visually stylised. It blurs the lines between victim and villain.”
According to the synopsis of this film, “Fortnight” centres on Madam Ru, a glamorous and manipulative socialite who rents out a back apartment in her lavish suburban home to a young married couple, Tino and Lindi.
Over 14 turbulent nights, secrets unravel, passions ignite and power shifts dangerously.
What begins as polite co-existence turns into an intense battle of seduction, control, and survival.
As the nights pass, masks fall and no one leaves untouched.
Besides this upcoming movie, Ndlovu is no stranger to the film and television sector, having produced several notable works.
These include “Nyanga,” a feature film set to premiere at SATOMBE in Zambia in September 2025, followed by a Zimbabwe premiere in December in Harare.
It is currently being featured in international film festivals.
In 2025, he produced “Moja Love,” a feature film scheduled for release next month.
Prior to this, he created another refreshing production called “Thandie’s Diary” in 2018, while “Cook Off” was also produced in the same year.
In 2010, he produced “Sores of Emmanuel,” which premiered in May.
His commitment to producing films comes at a time when the industry has been making great strides despite lack of funding.
Most production houses have been operating without Government support or sponsorship.
There are ongoing calls for funding to be made available in this sector, which has proven to be a billion-dollar industry in Hollywood (USA), Bollywood (India) and Nollywood (Nigeria).
Closer to home, South Africa’s film industry has thrived despite lack of sponsorship.
Unfortunately, a lack of sponsorship limits both creativity and imagination.
