NATIONAL Athletics Association of Zimbabwe first vice president in charge of development, Aeneas Nhoro, says they are happy with the level of participation in the just-ended Level One technical officials course held at Prince Edward School.
The course attracted officials from across the country including members of the National Association of Primary Heads and National Association of Secondary Schools Heads.
Nhoro, who is an IAAF TOECS Level One lecturer, conducted the course and he said the participation of Naph and Nash members will go a long way in the development of the sport at grassroots levels.
“We had 25 participants from across the country. In terms of the course we were dealing with the interpretation of the rules and regulation of IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations).
“We were looking at the competition procedure, the organisation of athletics competitions themselves and the officials that are wanted to officiate at a specific event. We also went into the seeding of athletes.
“One of the important things was the composition of the participants, there were teachers from schools, people from the mines and we had the Naph president, Cynthia Khumalo from Victoria Falls, she was part of the course and Linah Kadziyanike she is the treasurer for Naph.
“We also had Philip Chikomwe who is the head in charge for Nash in Manicaland.
“What is important is that when these leaders came they were enlightened and we now know that at grassroots level there is going to be proper development because they are going to inform their different districts,” said Nhoro.
Nhoro said they want to see provincial chairpersons attending similar courses so that they are well equipped of what is required on the technical side of the sport.
“If chairpersons and heads in charge attend the course, their first port of call is to organise a similar course for their districts because they now know the importance of these courses.
“We need to really prepare our competitions, officials and athletes especially now that we have the COSASSA championships which are an annual event,” said Nhoro.
