Masvingo is gradually angling towards achieving Covid-19 vaccination herd immunity with nearly 450 000 people having received either one or both jabs.

The total number of people who have received both jabs or their first one represents 36,5% of the province’s targeted herd immunity, according to Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Ezra Chadzamira.

Masvingo’s estimated population of people who must be jabbed to achieve herd immunity is around 900 000.

Minister Chadzamira disclosed that to date 262 389 people across the province have received the first dose while 175 274 had received the second one.

This brings the cumulative number of people who have either received the first or both doses in the province to 437 663.

The Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister also revealed that the province had received nearly 500 000 vaccines from Government ever since the inoculation programme began.

Zimbabwe has earned world acclaim for its vaccination programme to combat Covid-19 as the nation marches towards herd immunity. Masvingo is one of the most populous provinces in Zimbabwe with Government pulling all the stops to make sure more people are vaccinated.
