NEDBANK Zimbabwe today officially started the construction of its new headquarters in Highlands, Harare, demonstrating its long-term confidence in Zimbabwe and commitment to supporting the country’s economic development.

The new headquarters, opposite Highland Park shopping centre, along ED Mnangagwa Road, is expected to serve as a centre of excellence for the bank, supporting operational efficiency, innovation and the delivery of banking solutions as Zimbabwe’s financial services sector continues to evolve.

Nedbank Zimbabwe chairman Innocent Dutiro said the development was more than the construction of a new building, describing it as a statement of confidence in Zimbabwe and the bank’s commitment to its clients, employees and communities.

He said the investment reflected Nedbank Zimbabwe’s determination to build a stronger and more resilient institution capable of serving future generations of customers and contributing to national economic aspirations.

“Today is more than the commencement of a construction project. It is a visible statement of confidence in Zimbabwe, a commitment to our clients and communities, and a testament to Nedbank’s belief in the immense potential of this nation and its people,” Mr Dutiro said.

He said the groundbreaking marked the beginning of a new chapter for Nedbank Zimbabwe as the institution sought to grow alongside the Zimbabwean economy.

Adding that the investment highlights the wider Nedbank Group’s long-term commitment to Zimbabwe.

He also noted that banks had an important role to play in mobilising capital, supporting productive sectors, fostering entrepreneurship and creating opportunities that improve livelihoods.

“Nedbank Zimbabwe remains committed to partnering with the Government, regulators, businesses and communities in advancing Zimbabwe’s development agenda,” Mr Dutiro said.

Mr Dutiro commended Nedbank Zimbabwe management for driving the bank’s strategic vision and positioning it for sustained growth.

The project comes as Zimbabwe continues to seek increased private-sector investment to support economic growth, infrastructure development and job creation.

The ceremony was attended by senior Government, central bank and banking sector officials, as Nedbank Zimbabwe formally commenced the project that will house its future operations.
