Still, a win tomorrow will at least take AmaKhosi to the top for at least 24 hours as both Sundowns and SuperSport only play tomorrow, with the former making the tricky trip to Free State Stars while the later host Bloemfontein Celtic.
Having already lost out on the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout Cup, the league has become the one trophy that Chiefs must win to make up for the disappointment that they have had to cope with this season.
“The most important thing to do right now is to do well in the remaining game before the year ends. We have to make sure that we get all the three points before we go for the break so that we stay in the championship race.
“I know that if we win the remaining game before the break then we will have a huge chance in the title race,” says Nengomasha.
As the man currently wearing the armband in the absence of Itumeleng Khune, the battle-hardened Zimbabwean is also aware of how much he needs to keep the team focused in the midst of contract negotiations at the club.
“The most important thing to do is to focus on doing the job where you are currently employed,” he says.
Having won the game against Free State Stars, described by Vladimir Vermezovic as the most difficult, Chiefs fans will find solace in spending the festive season sitting at the top.
“I have always said that we must make sure that we stay close with whoever is at the top so that when we head for the home stretch in the last five games we are not far off,” says Vermezovic.
