Nephew scalds uncle in heated dispute over cigarette

Sunday Mail Reporter

A 22-YEAR-OLD Harare man is fighting for his life in hospital after being scalded with hot water by his nephew.

Saviours Mutavati, of Kambuzuma, is currently receiving treatment at the Sally Mugabe Central Hospital after his nephew, Pearson Munhumayengwa, drenched him with a bucket of hot water following a heated argument over a cigarette.

The incident occurred on July 22, when Munhumayengwa attempted to light a cigarette using the pair’s shared electric stove.

When Mutavati objected, a heated argument ensued.

Appearing for the State, Mr Anesu Chirenje alleged that Munhumayengwa later followed Mutavati to his room, where he emptied a bucket full of boiling water on him. Mutavati suffered serious burns on the chest, forehead and both hands. He was rushed to hospital, while Munhumayengwa was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa remanded Munhumayengwa in custody to tomorrow for bail application.
