A MAKONI community court has ordered Tarisiro Nyambodza to compensate his uncle, Obert Mutombosora after he admitted having an illicit affair with his wife, Lydia.
Nyambodza, of Nyamuronda Village, was dragged to Chief Makoni’s court to face allegations of bedding his aunt.
The sexual encounters allegedly took place in the bush, with Nyambodza, who is younger than Lydia, admitting to the allegations when confronted by his uncle.
Mutombosora, a policeman, discovered the affair after finding incriminating messages on his wife’s phone.
He subsequently demanded six beasts as compensation from Nyambodza for damaging his family and reputation.
“I came across messages in my wife’s phone, where Nyambodza was talking to my wife. I made investigations and it came out clear that Nyambodza was having an affair with my wife. Nyambodza is my nephew. He has unlimited access to my home even in my absence. I never expected that my nephew would stab me in the back.
“I confronted Nyambodza over the issue. I advised him to come out in the open and tell the truth so that I could forgive him. Nyambodza admitted that he was seeing my wife. Later in the evening, a family meeting was convened and Headman Nyamuronda was also present.
“Nyambodza admitted that he was bedding my wife. He also said they had slept together twice. I was pained when Nyambodza’s uncle said that they were not going to compensate me because cheating was not a business. I was so angry and I reached for an axe intending to strike the uncle and Nyambodza. This did not happen as I was restrained.
“The matter was later heard by Headman Nyamuronda, who ruled that Nyambodza should compensate me with three beasts and two goats.
‘‘Nyambodza is refusing to honour the headman’s ruling,” he said.
Mutombosora also revealed that his first marriage collapsed after another nephew from Nyambodza family dated his wife.
“This is not the first time this has happened to me. My first marriage collapsed after one of the Nyambodzas dated my wife. I had to raise two children without their mother. I am still staying with Lydia,” said Mutombosora.
Nyambodza did not waste the court’s time and admitted dating Lydia.
“Yes, I was in love with her, and we slept twice in the bush,” he admitted.
Chief Makoni found Nyambodza guilty of adultery, and also chastised Lydia for being promiscuous.
He advised her to stay single if she was not satisfied with her husband.
“Nyambodza is found guilty of adultery, and is ordered to pay one beast to Mutombosora. Nyambodza is further fined three goats for having sex in the bush, which is a taboo. He is further ordered to meet the cost of the suit, which is US$180. Lydia must behave as a married woman and stick to her husband. If she has an appetite for many men, then she should walk away and stay single,” ruled the court.
