A Hwange district netball league has been formed. This was revealed by Abel Manyumeka, a veteran sports organiser in the mining town on Saturday. He said the league was formed to tap talent around the district which was being motivated by Hwange Colliery and ZPC Hwange’s participation in the national league. “We have formed a netball league to tap talent from schools and the communities. Another desire was to see girls take part in their own favourite sport which is netball and ensure that the two teams that play in the Super League have local talent to tap from,” said Manyumeka.
He added; “We have nine teams for a start, it’s a good number to start with and we hope more clubs will come on board as we progress.”
Manyumeka said what was pleasing to the organisers was that almost every corner of Hwange was covered by club representation.
“We have teams coming from most of the villages. That way we have more talent being exposed to competitive netball and we hope the professional sides will tap the talent at their disposal.
“Netball has potential to grow and what it needs are good participating numbers and sponsorship. We appeal to companies in the province to come forward and help the girls realise their own dreams,” said Manyumeka.
