ZIMBABWE Netball Association Super League newcomer’s Jumbo Queens were thumped by Khami Prison 51-24 in a league match played over the weekend. Jumbo Queens are having a hard time adjusting to the elite league, as they have lost their two opening games. Khami Prison coach Takona Nsana said he is happy with a winning start to the season.

“I’m happy that we started with a win.  We didn’t play in the first round because ZPC Hwange did not come.  Our target is to keep this momentum and do better than last season when we finished 10th,” he said.

Nsana said they will be banking on last season’s experience to improve this season. “Last season was a learning curve since it was a maiden season.  I am positive we will do well this year and the squad is looking strong and sharp.  We are raring to go,” he said.

Linda Nkoronko was outstanding – the sharp shooter scoring 20 points to power the prison wardens to victory.
In other fixtures Nehanda was defeated by Zimbabwe Defence Force 46-41 while Waruwaru thumped Air Force 50-26.
Hwange Colliery eased to victory beating ZRP Midlands 53-15.

Meanwhile, Bulawayo Netball Association Division One will roar to life this weekend with opening tournament to be played on Saturday.
League secretary Sekani Dube said:

“We have about 27 teams participating in our opening tournament.  From there we will have confirmation on how many teams will be taking part this year.  Everything is in order for the tournament and we are hoping to have a good season, as schools are expected to take part as well.”
