ONE of the country’s leading mobile network operators, NetOne has demonstrated its continued initiative of impacting lives and building sustainable communities by donating a consignment of Christmas goodies to Matthew Rusike Children’s Home in Umzingwane District, Matabeleland South Province.

The organizations did this to bring smiles to the faces of the orphaned children. It was all joy at Methodist Church in Zimbabwe Mzinyathi Circuit after about 100 orphans received an early Christmas treat, all courtesy of NetOne.

Speaking about the initiative held on Saturday, NetOne group chief executive officer, Engineer Raphael Mushanawani, said the donation was a demonstration of the company’s corporate social responsibility, which also underscores the company’s commitment to community development and social inclusion.

“This outreach program directly supports the objectives outlined in the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), particularly in addressing social protection and human capital development.

“Furthermore, it advances several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 1 on poverty elimination and SDG 10 on reducing inequalities within our communities,” said Eng Mushanawani.

He said the donation, comprising substantial Christmas hampers filled with essential groceries, aims to ensure the children enjoy a memorable festive season.

Speaking at the handover of the groceries NetOne Matabeleland regional manager, Gugulethu Mpofu, said the donation was in line with their company’s commitment to improving the lives of people in communities, especially the most vulnerable.
She emphasised the importance of corporate social responsibility and the positive impact it can have on society.

“This aligns with our mission of impacting lives and building sustainable communities.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to assist these orphans as we approach the festive season, ensuring they have something to celebrate.

“We will continue to work with them and other communities in need, empowering them and contributing to their overall well-being,” she said.

Umzingwane National Assembly member Levy Mayihlome, who was also the guest of honour, commended NetOne’s commitment to helping rural communities, especially orphans, saying it was unusual for companies to assist people in such remote areas.

He said NetOne’s actions align with the President’s vision of inclusivity.

“We are happy with what NetOne does because most of the time, most companies don’t come to assist people, especially those in rural communities. NetOne has demonstrated that it’s a company that works with the people.

“We thought this is done where there is a large market base, but NetOne has decided to help orphans here in Umzingwane District. Most of the time, companies always decide to help those in urban areas.

“NetOne has demonstrated and is living according to the President’s philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

He adds: “The corporate sector’s involvement in uplifting vulnerable members of our society is crucial for sustainable development.

“NetOne’s gesture today demonstrates the kind of private-public partnership that can transform lives in our communities. This children’s home has been a sanctuary for many, and such support helps ensure its continued service to those in need.”

Reverend Obey Muchena, Superintendent at Mzinyathi Circuit of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, commended NetOne’s gesture, expressing gratitude for the timely assistance.

He said the donation would significantly benefit the orphans, especially during these challenging economic times.

“We feel very humbled by the generous donation we have received today. The groceries will significantly assist the caregivers who are dedicated to looking after these orphans,” he said.
