Mobile network operator NetOne posted a strong performance in the second quarter of 2025, driven by aggressive network expansion and growth in its active subscriber base, according to the latest report by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).
NetOne’s active mobile subscriptions grew by 0.22 percent, rising from 3,978,177 in the first quarter to 3,987,105 in the second. The increase was supported by a notable rise in network usage, with total voice traffic up 2.73 percent from 507,523,225 minutes to 521,361,797 minutes.
This growth contributed to a modest increase in market share, with NetOne’s share of mobile voice traffic climbing 0.28 percentage points, from 12.09 percent to 12.37 percent.
The most striking aspect of NetOne’s performance was its infrastructure rollout. POTRAZ identified the operator as “the leading player in network infrastructure deployment across multiple technologies.” NetOne increased its 2G base stations from 1,451 to 1,456, while its 3G base stations jumped from 1,459 to 1,567, a net addition of 108. Its 4G LTE base stations recorded the largest expansion in the sector, rising from 1,354 to 1,578, an addition of 224 new sites. The company also expanded its 5G network, with base stations increasing from 16 to 18.
This strategic focus on upgrading high-speed 4G and 5G services underscores NetOne’s commitment to modernising its network and enhancing customer experience, positioning it as a competitive force in Zimbabwe’s fast-evolving telecommunications sector.
