Mobile network operator NetOne yesterday handed over 71 bags of cement to St Augustine’s High School in Penhalonga in a development that is expected to see some of the school’s old buildings getting refurbished. The bags were handed over to the school authorities through the school alumni who are spearheading development projects at the institution, which is one of the country’s oldest and best in quality of education. The cement will be used to renovate the Form Three classroom block, which is one of the oldest and is in a deplorable state.
The school head, Reverend Sydney Chirombe, said the gesture would go a long way in alleviating challenges bedevilling the school.
“We would like to thank NetOne for the kind gesture. Some of the buildings, particularly the Form Three classroom block, has been in a deplorable state. Until today the Form Three pupils have been attending lessons in the classroom despite its bad shape. Students now have to move to other classrooms to pave way for the renovations, which we think will be complete by end of this term,” said Rev Chirombe who was accompanied by acting deputy head Mrs Sekai Musanhu and other teachers.
NetOne Zone Three commander Mr Farai Matope said they would continue to commit themselves in social corporate responsibility programmes. Zone Three is made up of Mashonaland East and Manicaland.
“Customers are supporting our initiatives. The adoption of One Fusion, for instance, has been tremendous. Most recently, we launched One Money and it is being accepted by the mar- ket. As an operator, the only way to thank our customers’ support is by remembering them like what we have done here at St Augustine’s High School. The school serves our customer as teachers are on our networks,” he said.
