NEW: 109K farmers register to grow tobacco

LATEST figures show that 109 061 farmers have so far registered to grow tobacco for the 2023-2024 tobacco planting season, down 24 percent from the 144 434 farmers that had registered by the same period last year.

According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board’s latest weekly update, the majority of farmers registering for the upcoming tobacco planting season are contracted.

Said TIMB:

“109 061 growers have registered so far in preparation for the upcoming season. 93 percent of the registered growers are contracted.”
