HARARE – Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Priscah Mupfumira on Wednesday appointed Rita Likukuma as the new acting chief executive of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA).
The main role of the ZTA is to sell Zimbabwe as a tourist destination.
Likukuma, who has vast experience cutting across different sectors of the economy, has been seconded from the ZTA board and takes over from chief operating officer, Givemore Chidzidzi who has been acting since November last year.
ZTA chief executive officer Karikoga Kaseke is reportedly on medical leave, pending retirement.
“Mrs Likukuma is charged with driving the vision of the Authority in line with that of nation,” the ZTA said in a statement.
The Zimbabwe government has identified tourism as one of the quick-win sectors that can be exploited to earn the economy much needed foreign currency in line with its Vision 2030 of becoming an upper middle class economy by 20130.
“Mrs Likukuma brings in vast corporate governance experience having served on various boards,” the ZTA said.
Likukuma is also currently the deputy chairperson of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe board, chairs the board of Turnall Holdings and is a non-executive director of PG Industries.
She has previously served as the managing director of the solar division of Art Corporation and was a senior executive at Unilever.
Among other qualifications, she is a holder of a Masters in Business Administration from the Oxford Brookes University and a Bachelor of Science Economics Degree from the University of Zimbabwe. – New Ziana
