THE ‘Chibuku Neshamwari’ traditional dance competition national finals are set to be held in Harare on Saturday.
Dance groups representing the country’s 10 provinces will battle for honours at this eagerly-anticipated event, which will be held at Harare Gardens.
The annual dance festival, which is bankrolled by Delta Beverages, is a platform that brings together unheralded traditional dance groups to showcase their talents.
Delta Beverages general manager (corporate affairs) Patricia Murambinda said the dance competition seeks to keep traditional dances alive.
“This festival has become important tool in promoting and ensuring that traditional dances, which are one of our crucial intangible cultural heritages, are celebrated.
“Dance and music plays an important role in the way people interact, celebrate and narrate our past,” Murambinda said.
Delta Beverages is working in conjunction with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Traditional Dance Association.
The top three winners will receive prizes.
The festival will be graced by musicians Jah Prayzah and Killer T.
