Government has designated more areas in Mashonaland West province such as Norton, Selous Halfway, Zimplats, Chegutu, Chinhoyi, Kariba and Mhangura for Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Initially, Government had only selected Sunway City in Harare, Victoria Falls and Bulawayo for SEZ development.
Addressing the Mashonaland West Investment Conference on Friday last week, Special Economic Zones Authority (Seza) board chairperson Dr Gideon Gono also welcomed Government’s plan to merge the Zimbabwe Investment Centre, ZimTrade and the Joint Venture Unit.
“It was very clear that there is need for some streamlining of the bodies that promote investment so that they speak the same language and we do not waste resources. Instead of having two bodies, we merge them,” he said.
“This explains our excitement when we heard His Excellency, the President, talking about the Business Facilitation Bill during his Independence (Day) speech.
“A Bill that is meant to bring together institutions that are promoting business and doing the same under one roof.”
The Bill, which is still before Parliament, according to Dr Gono, will help in promoting investment in the country.
