THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Harare Province will start conducting an operation aimed at restoring sanity and decongesting the central business district (CBD) and Greater Harare.

According to a press release signed by ZRP Harare Province deputy provincial spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Webster Dzvova, the operation will include stakeholders such as the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara), the Vehicles Inspectorate Department (VID), the Ruwa Local Board, Chitungwiza Town Council and the Epworth Local Board.

City of Harare and the Department of Social Welfare will also take part in the operation.

According to ZRP, the operation will be conducted in all Harare province’s police districts, namely Harare Central, Suburban, Mbare, Chitungwiza, Traffic, Harare East, Harare South and Harare North.

The operation will be targeting, among others, unregistered vehicles, pirate taxis and vendors that sell their wares at road intersections.

Street kids that control traffic will also be targeted as police seek to decongest the city.

Police also warned Harare residents against using pirate taxis, commonly known as ‘mushika-shika’.

“A number of robberies, rape and theft cases have occurred in which victims fall prey to these illegal transporters who misrepresent themselves as transporters through mushika-shika. We have declared war against these mushika-shikas,” said police.
