NEW: Body of late Air Commodore (Retd) Simon Bere arrives in Hurungwe

THE body of late national hero Air Commodore (Retd) Simon Brian Bere has landed at his homestead in Gudhuri village, Zvimonja area of Hurungwe district.

His uncle Mr Sylvester Bere said Air Commodore was the first in the family to go to secondary school, as well as join the liberation struggle and be declared a national hero.

The body arrived at 10am from Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare, where it was lying in state.
Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo is leading proceedings.

Service chiefs, including Commander Mechanised Brigade Brigadier-General Raban Nikisi, political leaders and villagers are in attendance.
