ONE of Zimbabwe’s representatives in the Junior Women at the 2023 edition of the Bonaqua Africa Triathlon Cup Troutbeck – Anje Van As – shrugged off the challenge of currently recovering from injury after making a top four finish in the competition.

Speaking to the media after the race, Van As said she is delighted with her performance.

She said: “The outcome of the race was not the best and what I expected but making a top five finish is good. The race was mentally challenging but I managed to hold on and I am expecting to perform much better in the future.”

Meanwhile, South Africa dominated the junior category as Kadence Ribbink was first in Junior Women and Shaun Wolfaardt took first position under Junior Men.

Zimbabwe had six representatives under the juniors, including Mutare’s Mthethwa twins –  Mandlenkosi and Inkosinomusa.

Other Zimbabwean representatives in that category, who include Nicoe Madya, came fifth while Makanaka Mawere was out of the race after facing problems with her bike.

Mandlenkosi came eighth.
