For most women who are used to typical erotica a new book titled “Tanaka Chronicles”, which tells a story from an African woman’s perspective, is a must-read.
Written by Zimbabwean Tracy Kadungure who worked in social care in the United Kingdom since the mid-1970s, the book challenges some traditional ideologies.
“Tanaka Chronicles” is a trilogy which fuses strict African culture with eroticism and its making waves across the borders.
The book takes the readers on a journey deep into the constraints of African culture where sexual taboos are unpacked albeit, graphically.
The story is centred on Tanaka who was a virgin until she fell in love with a tall handsome man called Fungai.
As their relationship grew, Tanaka gave in and became intimate with Fungai but that was the last she saw him.
He leaves without explanation. Tanaka then seeks friends with benefits to satiate her desires.
From Zimbabwe to the UK to America, she is on a quest to find him, she needs closure. When she finally got to America she was shocked to find out that Fungai was now Fungisai a “Shemale” stripper in a Las Vegas night club.
According to Tracy, while sex before marriage is often ignored in the Western world, it is still a mantra that runs deep throughout African culture.
“Tanaka Chronicles” is a journey of spiritual awakening and emotional growth.
Tracy said there were a number of myths about how girls grow up and her second book will continue with the American trip where Tanaka finds out more about Fungai.
The sequel which will be out in the next few coming months will be made into a film.
“The next edition is like a script for a film so definitely a film will be coming based on the novel,” she said.
