LUPANE, which is the provincial capital for Matabeleland North province is set to have its first-ever cancer treatment centre before the end of this year.
Construction of the centre, which is being spearheaded by the Mphilisi Cancer Trust, has already begun.
The centre, which is being bankrolled by a local church, Kupenya kwaJesu Pagomo church, is set to open its doors in November.
Businessman Mr Mphilisi Ngwenya, who is coordinating the construction of the centre, said the opening of the health facility will go a long way in improving the well-being of the local community.
“This centre will be the first of its kind. We have had so many locals who lost their lives simply because they did not have access to cancer screening and treatment. The majority of the cancer victims sought treatment rather late,” said Mr Ngwenya.
