NEW: Chiroodza appointed Gems manager

CELEBRATED netball umpire Agnes Chiroodza has been named the new Gems manager.

Her appointment comes as the national netball team regroups ahead of the Pent series, slated for October 31 to November 4, and the African Championships.

Namibia will host this year’s African Championships between November 9 and 16.

The Pent series was previously scheduled for June, but had to be moved to October due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chiroodza takes over the managerial post, which was left vacant following the sad passing of Ledwin Dondo.

“This is a huge task especially considering the bar that Mrs Dondo had set, but I am eager to learn,” she said.

Chiroodza has hit the ground running and is already putting modalities in place, as part of the squad is already in camp in a bio-secure bubble.

“Everything is going according to plan, and we have been running around to ensure that all players are tested for Covid-19.

“We want to make sure that everyone has their documents ready as some had expired passports.

“So far, we have 16 people in camp and we are still expecting others to come in later.

“We will put everything about our preparations on papers and send to the media,” she said.

It has been two years since the Gems were last involved in a competitive match.

Chiroodza facilitated the birth of the new netball league – Premier Netball League – that was registered in July this year.
