Chitungwiza Municipality urgently calls for well-wishers to assist in the water crisis plaguing the dormitory town following the decommissioning of Prince Edward Water Treatment Plant.

In a statement, the municipality said it received between one and three megalitres from Morton Jaffary on weekends, which is not enough to cover all the residents.

“Chitungwiza currently faces a serious water crisis following the decommissioning of the Prince Edward Water Treatment Plant at the end of August by the City of Harare,” said the municipality.

“The development was caused by the drying up of twin dams, Harava and Seke Dam, that feed the treatment plant.

The municipality said it was in the process of engaging the Government for a possible intervention.

“The council is also maintaining community boreholes for residents to source water. We encourage residents to draw water from safe and trusted sources,” it said.

“Meanwhile, we are appealing to well-wishers to come on board to assist us in this situation.”
