THE honour bestowed on champion boxer Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire by President Mnangagwa will go a long way in instilling confidence and self-belief in the girl-child.

This was said by the boxer’s trainer and manager, Clyde Musonda.

On Monday, President Mnangagwa hosted the boxer at State House to recognise her achievement.

Musonda, who was in attendance when Chiwandire pummelled Zambian boxer Catherine Phiri to win the World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight belt in February, said the honour bestowed on the boxer by President Mnangagwa will inspire the girl-child to aim higher.

“This honour means our President views the girl-child as an equal to the boy-child.

“A lot of girls and women have been inspired by the President’s kind and considerate gesture,” Musonda said.

Chiwandire will defend her title on home soil.

The date of the eagerly anticipated fight in which she will face Mexican Mariana Juarez is yet to be confirmed.

Juarez is a former WBC superbantam weight champion.
