New concept to complement ERRP launched

GOVERNMENT has launched Nhimbe-Ilima Rehabilitation Programme to complement the ongoing Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) through involving local communities working on roads in their areas.

While the ERRP focuses on rehabilitating and maintaining the country’s road network, Nhimbe-Ilima brings together resources and expertise from various stakeholders in provinces to strategise and work on road development and maintenance projects. Addressing a local authorities’ conference, Local Government and Public Works Minister, Daniel Garwe announced the immediate roll out of the Nhimbe-Ilima programme with funding from Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (Zinara).

“Nhimbe-Ilima or Mushandirapamwe programme is imperative for acceleration towards achieving the Vision 2030,” he said. “The programme encourages provinces to pool their resources, skills and expertise to achieve common goals in road development, thereby enhancing the impact of ERRP and other road related initiatives.

“By working together, provinces can share knowledge, leading to more efficient and effective use of funds, expertise and equipment,” Minister Garwe said. Zinara chief executive, Engineer Nkosinathi Ncube urged provinces to put together resources for the strategic rehabilitation of roads countrywide as the Nhimbe-Ilima initiative is classified as a special project.

“Zinara will fund for procurement of fuel, servicing of equipment and all other necessary needs. Under this programme, each province will have a designated leader who will oversee the implementation of road projects, ensuring that resources are utilised efficiently and effectively.

“The Nhimbe-Ilima Programme aligns with our investment policy. Through this programme, we are not only rehabilitating roads but also creating jobs, stimulating local economies and contributing to the development of our nation,” Eng Ncube said. — New Ziana
