‘New crop of football administrators must consult’

VETERAN women’s football administrator Susan Chibizhe says the present crop of administrators would excel and take the game to greater heights if only they seek advice from those who have walked the path before.

Chibizhe is a former Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League chairperson and an ex-Zifa board member.
She is regarded as one of the female football administrators with a good profile.

“The crop that is there now doesn’t want to listen. They do not want to get advice from senior persons which is a big problem. The other issue is there is no hand over and take over. Leaders just come and go.

“Myself when I got out I never handed anything to the other person who was coming in to run football.

“Right now even if l go back to try and advise those in office, they will obviously ask who I am because they do not know me and there is no history that has been written about women’s football,” said Chibizhe.

She implored former players to stand up and take up leadership roles in women’s football.

“There are good former players out there who must come and run football because they understand our problems. We are not saying we want to come back and run football because we are old. All we can do is just offer advice.”

Her sentiments were echoed by Elizabeth Langa who once led Zimbabwe Women Football.

“The problem is that we shy away from each other. As a human being you always consult your elders and that should also happen to those running football. The problem is when one is in power she or he does not want anything to do with those that have left. But that is not how things should be. The new crop must consult with those that have been there and l tell you if we have that unity we will achieve a lot,” said Langa. — @innocentskizoe
