NEW: Dam levels decline

THE country’s average dam levels have decreased due to high temperatures and increased water withdrawals by local authorities and farming activities, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) has said.

In a statement on micro-blogging site, X, Zinwa said as of Wednesday, national dam levels had decreased to 74 percent from 77 percent recorded on November 15 2023.

“Dam levels as at December 6: water levels are on a declining trend. Dam level average now 74,4 percent due to the high temperatures and intensified withdrawals for irrigation and councils,” Zinwa said.

According to the latest statistics, Chivero is 74 percent full, Mzingwane (4 percent), Upper Ncema (23 percent), Inyakuni (27 percent) and Insiza (58 percent).

Other dams include Tugwi Mukosi (82 percent), Lake Mutirikwi (90 percent) and Manyame (83 percent).
