At least 300 delegates will attend the 11th edition of the National Disability Expo, which starts at Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda on Wednesday.

Running under the theme “Holistic empowerment of youth and children with disabilities towards the attainment of Vision 2030 – A better and brighter future for everyone”, the expo will showcase products, new technologies, crafts and other services for people living with disabilities.

Director in the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Disability Mr Macnon Chirinzepi said preparations for the expo were at an advanced stage.

“Everything is now in order; just waiting for the exhibitors and kick-start the programme on Wednesday. His Excellency (President Mnangagwa) will officiate (at) the expo,” he said.

“The Phelandaba Stadium is now accessible on all its facilities.

“All ablutions and entrances have been ramped. The grass has been cut and all uneven ground has been levelled.”

The resources for the expo, he said, had been mobilised.

In a statement on Monday, Special Advisor on National Disability Issues in the Office of the President and Cabinet Dr Joshua Malinga said the expo will empower and complement the inclusive environment for people with disabilities.

“The expo will give people with disabilities a platform to exhibit talents, products, and technology,” said Dr Malinga.

People with disabilities (PWDs) used to lag behind in socio-economic development.

However, Government’s blueprint, which emphasises inclusivity, has seen PWDs enjoying equal rights in communities.

Last year, the expo was held at Rudhaka Stadium in Marondera, where at least 100 exhibitors participated.
