NEW: EMA issues 38 tickets to non-compliant farmers

Online reporter

The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has issued 38 tickets to non-compliant farmers and those violating fire laws and causing extensive damage to the environment and property.

EMA environment education and publicity manager Ms. Amkela Sidange said this is done in order to regulate fire incidents.

“A total of 38 tickets and 11 dockets have been issued to farmers and those violating the laws and causing extensive damage to the environment and property.”

Since July 31 EMA has been carrying out veld fire blitzes countrywide with hotspots like Matabeleland North being given the first priority.

The major drive of the operation is law enforcement —which includes veld fire investigations, prosecution—  and checking on compliance with fire guard construction.
