New film 4KUS to shed light on gender dynamics, resilience

Award-winning film director, Bily Kabasa, is poised to deliver a compelling narrative on gender inequality with his upcoming film “4KUS“.

Scheduled to première in Harare, Mutare and Bulawayo at venues to be unveiled this month, the film, currently in production, spotlights Bulawayo talent in the form of lead actresses Kundai Mabviko and Pearl Ngwenya. It aims to explore themes of gender inequality, friendship and the resilience of the human spirit.

Kabasa shared his vision: “As the director of this film, my goal is to bring these themes to life with honesty, sensitivity and a strong visual language. 4KUS revolves around Princess, a determined young girl with dreams of a better future. Through her interactions with classmates, the lecturer and her best friend Brenda, the film delves into societal expectations of women and the barriers they encounter in pursuing ambitions.”

Richard Tentone, the film’s publicist said the production aims to challenge prevailing narratives and spotlight the achievements of women who have significantly contributed to various fields, often overshadowed by their male counterparts.

Tentone emphasised the film’s dedication to raising awareness about sexual exploitation and the vulnerability of young girls, particularly highlighting a crucial scene involving Brenda and Chamba.

“4KUS will visually capture emotional depth and vast aspirations through a mix of intimate and sweeping shots,” he said.

Tentone expressed the intention to foster dialogue and inspire action toward a more inclusive and equitable society, utilising nuanced performances and a compelling narrative structure.
