NEW: Four die, 18 injured in Gweru road accident

FOUR people died while 18 others were injured when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned in Gweru on Monday evening.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident, which occurred around 4pm along the Gweru CBD-Mkoba highway.

“Four people died while 18 others were injured when a Toyota Hiace with 21 passengers on board veered off the road and overturned three times before landing on its right side,” he said.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post-mortem. Seventeen of the injured are admitted at the same hospital, while the other victim was referred to Bulawayo United Hospitals for treatment. More details will be released in due course.”
