Geo Pomona Waste Management Company and the Kingdom of Lesotho are poised to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at tackling the country’s waste management crisis, particularly in the capital city, Maseru.
This development follows a successful benchmarking tour by the Geo Pomona management team led by the company’s chief executive, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, to Lesotho, at the invitation of the southern African country’s government.
During the visit, the delegation held discussions with key stakeholders and concluded their mission with a meeting at the State House in Maseru.
Prime Minister Samuel Matekane expressed keen interest in collaborating with Geo Pomona, emphasising the urgency of addressing Lesotho’s waste management challenges.
He further directed the company to draft a technical proposal to set the groundwork for formalising the partnership.
Dr Nguwaya welcomed the opportunity, stating that their expertise and innovative approaches to waste management could significantly alleviate the challenges faced by Maseru.
“We are proud to be venturing into the region and as Geo Pomona, we are ready to work,” he said.
The MoU is expected to outline comprehensive strategies for waste collection, recycling, and sustainable disposal, contributing to improved environmental and public health outcomes in Lesotho.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards addressing a long-standing issue that has affected Maseru.
