The newly opened Ganye Clinic in Sessame will serve more than 14 000 people, and reduce the distance to, and congestion at Gokwe South District Hospital, a senior Government official has said.
Construction of the clinic started in 2013, but could not be finished in time due to financial challenges faced by Gokwe South Rural District Council.
It was only completed after the Government chipped in with $167 million. The facility comprises an outpatient department, male and female wards, fully equipped maternity ward, storerooms and dispensary.
The clinic is one of several flagship projects in the Midlands Province implemented under the devolution programme of the government.
Commissioning the facility, Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Owen Ncube, said Ganye Clinic will serve communities from four wards and seven villages with a population of more than 14 000 villagers.
He said it was part of a Government target to provide universal access to health services in the country.
“Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Mnangagwa, the Second Republic has prioritized the improvement of health services delivery as one of its key objectives. This is in line with the
National Development Strategy 1 which serves as our roadmap for achieving sustainable development across all sectors,” Ncube said.
“Several hospitals and clinics have been built with existing ones re-equipped and upgraded. These include the construction of Gweru Provincial Hospital Covid 19 wards, Kwekwe Infectious Disease Hospital, the construction of Medical Centre of Excellence at Gweru Provincial Hospital, and Mapfungautsi clinic here in Gokwe South among others,” he said. – New Ziana.
