GOVERNMENT has successfully resuscitated Makoni Farm dip tank in Rusape, as part of efforts to combat the spread of January Disease (Theileriosis).
The dip tank resuscitation blitz is aimed at refurbishing at least 2 000 dip tanks across the country, with the programme being carried out in phases.
The first phase is targeting 1 000 dip tanks by year end.
Speaking at the official opening of the dip tank, Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development permanent secretary, Dr John Basera, said January Disease is a menace to the national herd and should be dealt with through the consistent dipping of cattle.
“This is part of our livestock recovery and growth plan in motion, where we are targeting to revamp about 1 000 dip tanks across the country by the end of this year,” said Dr Basera.
“This is to make sure that we get rid of the effects of January Disease, which has claimed most of our cattle.”
Agricultural advisory services officers also demonstrated how farmers can fight tick-borne diseases through the use of tick grease, which has been distributed by Government to all farmers.
