NEW: Harare lawyer nabbed for corruption

Online Reporter

Harare lawyer, Agness Chatsama, has been arrested on allegations of manufacturing documents that she presented to the Deeds Office to allow her to fraudulently sell a flat in the capital’s Avenues area.

Chatsama is expected to appear in court on Friday.

She is accused of conniving with Ariginero Muzeya to present the forged documents to the Department of Deeds, Companies and Intellectual Property for them to transfer Patrick Court located at the corner of Nelson Mandela Street and Sixth Avenue from Dennis Patrikios, who runs Newcorner Emporium Pvt Limited, to Talati Family Trust for US$251 368.

Muzeya, who is wanted by the police over the same transaction, has been leasing the property from Newcorner Emporium Pvt Limited since 2002.

Chatsama and Muzeya are alleged to have misrepresented to the Department of Deeds, Companies and Intellectual Property that a board resolution authorising Muzeya to sell the property he was leasing had been granted by Newcorner Emporium Pvt Limited.

The duo also allegedly manufactured a Capital Gains Tax Certificate, purportedly from ZIMRA, before transferring the property to the Talati Family, thereby prejudicing Patrikios of US$800 000 in the process.
