A Harare man, Nobert Nengwami, has been arrested following an incident in which he allegedly assaulted his former workmate, Takudzwa Tigere, resulting in the loss of seven teeth.

Tigere appeared before Mbare Magistrate Mr Batsirai Zishiri on Thursday, claiming that he was attacked by Nengwami while attempting to mediate a dispute between Tigere and another man.

He expressed that his intention to help was misinterpreted, leading to the violent confrontation.

“I found him arguing with my brother and as someone l once worked with, l tried to reason with him but instead he did not respond but threw a stone at me and l lost seven teeth in the process,” he said.

In his defense Nobert did not deny injuring Takudzwa but insisted he did not use any weapon.

“They came and ganged up on me, Manasa Mutsvangwa and his brothers and l only acted in self-defense after Takudzwa had pushed me and l fell.

“Manasa Mutsvangwa had once said he was going to send his boys to deal with me after he had accused me of stealing his phone which he later found,” he said.

Eye witness Manasa Mutsvangwa who was also part of the brothers also gave his side of the story.

“He claims he was arguing with me but that is a lie, l saw him arguing with someone and also tried to help but he threw a stone at my car and also threw another one at Takudzwa and injured him,” he said.

The presiding Magistrate Mr Zishiri postponed the case to 10 March 2025.
