A househelp and gardener from Borrowdale have appeared in court on allegations of conspiring to steal US$35 000 and 40 000 Tanzanian shillings from their employer.

Tariro Manda (25) and Wilbert Maambirwi (58) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tapiwa Kuhudzai facing theft of trust property charges.

The two were remanded in custody for bail hearing tomorrow.

The complainant is Gift Muzilikazi, who is self-employed.

Muzilikazi owns various clothing shops in Harare’s central business district.

He stores various clothes and shoes at his house in the garage.

It is alleged that during the period extending from January 2024 to October 2025, the accused allegedly stole various clothes, shoes and cutlery on different occasions and took them to their homes for resale.

Sometime in September 2025, Muzilikazi discovered the offence and made a police report.

During the investigations, detectives picked the accused persons for questioning in connection with the case.

Both admitted to committing the offence.

Detectives recovered property worth US$16 000.
