Online Reporter

A HURUNGWE man has been sentenced to a mandatory nine-year jail term after he was convicted of possessing 17,3 kg of ivory at a bar near Mbare Musika Bus Terminus.

Tapesana Kunzama of Dzebonde village, under Chief Chundu, was convicted by Mbare magistrate Ms Rangarirai Gakanje after a full trial.

The State, led by Ms Janet Mlambo, proved that on December 22 last year, at around 1pm, Kunzama was in possession of ivory worth US$2 941 at Ruzvidzo Beerhall, where he was drinking.

Detectives tracked him as he was walking towards the bus terminus exit point.

They then apprehended him.

The State told the court that Kunzama had no special circumstances that could spare him a mandatory sentence.
