PEOPLE with disabilities (PWDs) say they are encouraged by Government’s drive to promote the use of information communication technologies (ICTs), as they are important tools for them.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Signs of Hope Trust director, Ms Samantha Sibanda, confirmed the position.
“We really acknowledge that Government is assisting people with disabilities; for example, as announced in the mid-term Budget, that assistive technology can be imported free of duty.
“Assistive technology is software that will make one access a screen-reader that will read all the words for them, and those with low vision will have magnifiers to allow them to have digital access.
“Our appeal to Government is to assist us to get some of the materials, which are expensive.”
She commended the recent launch of the e-learning passport by Government in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The e-learning passport is a key innovation meant to enhance learning pathways while providing critical and continuous access to quality education.
