The continued rollout of community information centres (CICs) is critical in on-boarding communities in remote and unserved areas onto Government’s digital transformation agenda.
This was said by Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minster Dr Jenfan Muswere at the launch of Brunapeg Community Information Centre in Mangwe, Matabeleland South, on Wednesday.
CICs provide a platform for affordable access to ICTs and help bridge the income and gender divide in communities.
“The overriding aim of our digitalisation agenda is to use the power of technology to enhance people’s lives,” said Dr Muswere.
“ICT infrastructure is the foundation of digital economies.
“We cannot talk of any digital services without reliable internet connectivity.
“As Government, we have created an enabling environment for both public and private sector investment in telecommunications infrastructure and internet connectivity.”
This stance, he said, has driven increasing public and private investment into the sector.
“Indeed, if we continue on this trajectory together, we can achieve the target of ensuring that every person has safe and affordable access to the Internet by 2030.”
