Japan will continue to enhance its bilateral relations with Zimbabwe through its Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) programme.
This was said by the Special advisor to Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) president, Mr Nakamura Toshiyuki during the 35th anniversary of JOVC in Zimbabwe.
He said the milestone represents the enduring commitment of Japan to the people of Zimbabwe.
“About 576 JOCVs have been dispatched to Zimbabwe so far.
“Each volunteer has brought unique skills and expertise to support key sectors such as education, ICT, health, agriculture, engineering, infrastructure development, music, and sports. Beyond their technical contributions, these volunteers have forged deep and lasting connections with local communities, fostering mutual understanding and respect,” he said.
Japan resident representative, Mr Shigeki Furuta said the JOCV programme will continue addressing pressing issues in Zimbabwe.
“The volunteers’ two-year commitment often comes with challenges as they adjust to a new culture, form bonds with the local community and face daily trials together with their hosts,” he said.
