NEW: Machete-wielding robber shot, arrested

Police have arrested a 29-year-old Kadoma man in connection with an armed robbery of 300 kilogrammes of gold sand.

On June 10, 2022, Jealous Mathonsi, together with his accomplice only known as Mozi, allegedly pounced a house in New Ingezi around 1.30am armed with machetes and knives .

“They assaulted the two complainants with machetes. They then stabbed one of the complainants twice on the left leg before stealing 6 x 50 kilograms of gold sand. 

“Detectives reacted swiftly after receiving the report and intercepted Mathonsi at Ingezi Shopping Centre,” police said in a statement.

“He tried to attack police officers with a machete. Police fired warning shots with an AK-47 rifle. However, the suspect kept advancing, resulting in him getting shot in the arm that was holding a machete.”

Mathonsi’s accomplice is still at large and police investigations are ongoing.
