A 26-year-old Kadoma man was remanded on his hospital bed after he was reportedly injured when a homeowner fought back during a robbery in which he and two accomplices allegedly stole US$1 000.

David Dhaka appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo facing a robbery charge.

He was arrested at the scene after the complainant overpowered him, while his alleged accomplices, only identified as Makiyi and Magaya, remain at large.

The State alleges that on August 16, at around midnight, Dhaka, Makiyi and Magaya went to the home of John Kasinahama armed with knives and torches.

It is alleged that the trio forced their way into the house and demanded money and other valuables.

Prosecutors told the court that the suspects threatened to stab Kasinahama if he failed to comply with their demands.

Fearing for his life, Kasinahama allegedly handed them US$1 000.

While the suspects were searching the house, Kasinahama allegedly tried to grab a knife from Dhaka, which subsequently fell to floor in the ensuing scuffle.

During the melee, the State alleges that Kasinahama stabbed Dhaka once in the neck, once on the chin and once below the armpit.

Dhaka allegedly collapsed and lost consciousness, leading to his arrest at the scene.

The State further alleged that Kasinahama pursued the two fleeing suspects.

During the chase, he allegedly stabbed one of them in the back, leaving the knife embedded in the suspect that however made good its escape.

The two suspects remain at large, while investigations to locate them are continuing.
