ZIMBABWE women’s football team, the Mighty Warriors, begin their quest for yet another Olympics appearance when they face Malawi in the first leg of the initial 2028 qualifying round against Malawi at Bingu Stadium today.
The match starts at 3pm.

History in motion

This is the first time that new coach Stella Gotal takes charge of the Mighty Warriors since her appointment in August.
Zimbabwe beat Malawi 2-1 in their last encounter at the same venue at the heart of Lilongwe in the 4Nations tournament last December.
Malawi, however, have a spring in their step after securing a 2027 World Cup spot by finishing second at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco two months ago.
It is their first game since that historic feat and the match has fittingly been sold out.
